🚀 After an intense 5-day sprint, my team and I successfully delivered Footie Friends, a platform designed to help parents organise and join local football meet ups for children, aged 7-12. The best part? Parents can participate with the peace of mind that child safety is fully prioritised.
🤔 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬:
Many parents struggle to find safe, organised local activities for their kids that combine physical activity, social interaction and community involvement. Through user research, we identified key pain points and designed Footie Friends to tackle these issues.
🎯 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬:
• Filtering by location, date, time and age, allowing parents to find local events that fit their schedule and ensure their child is playing with kids in a similar age group.

👩🏻💻 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤:
We used React and Next.js for its reusable components, offering easy routing and server-side rendering for better performance. PostgreSQL allowed us to manage relational data such as events and attendees and Render was chosen for reliable, scalable deployment. We also implemented a CI/CD pipeline using GitHub Actions to keep everything running smoothly and added linting and formatting checks to our workflow to maintain code quality and ensure consistency across the team.
⏳ 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬:
Next steps include adding a reporting system, real-time maps, login functionality, and parent-coach messaging to enhance safety and user experience.
👏🏼 Huge shout out to my amazing team, who worked so incredibly hard to make sure we achieved what we set out to in such a short amount of time! We had two days to build this website and it wouldn't have been possible without
